Led by Teesside University, the National Horizons Centre, currently in development at Central Park in Darlington, is an exciting new initiative that specialises in training and education for the UK bioscience sector. It is a centre of excellence that brings industry and academia together to support the growth of the bioscience sector, providing specialist education and training to equip the current and future workforce with the skills local businesses need.
The £22million state-of-the-art bioscience education, training, research and innovation facility directly addresses the growth potential in the life sciences sector. It will specialise in providing the full range of skills for the biosciences sector and in applying digital technologies to improve performance and productivity and foster breakthrough ideas.
Tackling Industry Challenges
Harnessing Teesside University’s cutting-edge expertise in digital technologies and its links with the Digital Catapult, the National Horizons Centre will play a pivotal role in tackling the rapid growth challenges facing the sector. It will collaborate with industry partners, such as FujiFilm Diosynth Technoligies and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), to address skills needs and create and provide access to world-class research and facilities that enable new discoveries and opportunities.
Located at Darlington’s Central Park, alongside the Centre for Process Innovation’s National Biologics Manufacturing Centre and Teesside University’s Centre for Professional and Executive Development, the National Horizons Centre sits next to the East Coast Main Line, placing it two and a half hours from London by rail, and within easy access of the A1 and three regional airports.
